Database Update

Consumer Health Complete

A health  database that provides easy to understand consumer health information.  It includes evidence based health reports, health encyclopedias and reference books, health pamphlets, health news, drug and herb information images and diagrams, videos and animations along with alternative health sources.  

Primary Search

Contains full text for nearly 70 popular, elementary school magazines.  It also includes the Encyclopedia of Animals and features Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, which provides students with easy-to-read entries written specifically for kids.  In addition, it includes the American Heritage Children's Dictionary and in Image Collection of 293,480 photos, maps and flags.

What is Wowbrary?

Wowbrary was created to make public libraries more visible and accessible to everyone.

Wowbrary regularly informs Derby Public Library patrons by email and on our web site about the newest books, movies and music that we have added to our collection.  It is easy for you to browse through the latest additions and place a hold on a new title. This is a free user service supported by grants, donations, sponsorships, book sale commissions and volunteers.

Downloadable Books Available at the Derby Public Library

The Derby Public Library is happy to announce that it now offers its patrons access to downloadable books through the technology of OverDrive, Inc., a leading provider of digital media.  By following a few easy steps, users can now listen to their favorite author, learn a new language or access non-fiction titles anywhere and anytime.  Patrons gain access to titles by using their library card.  By installing the free Media console software they then download the books onto their PC and transfer them to an MP# player or CD.  Hundreds of titles are available through a shared collection with fifteen other Bibliomation, Inc. libraries.  The digital titles are automatically returned after 14 days, so there is never any late fees applied.  This digital collection is available anytime of day from anywhere in the world.
