Library Services 

Derby residents, both adults and children, may obtain a free library card with current identification and proof of residence.  A child between the ages of 3-11 must have their application card signed by a parent or guardian.

Connecticut residents with a valid library card from their hometown may borrow Derby Public Library materials.  Individuals must be 18 years to borrow video in the adult and children's section.

Adult fiction/ non-fiction  -   28 days

New  adult fiction/non-fiction - 14 days

Children's fiction/non-fiction-   14 days

Books on Tape  -  14 days

Compact discs -   14 days

Magazines/Pamphlets (non-current issues) 14 days

Videocassettes/DVD's -  2 days

Passes (museum/zoo/aquarium)  - 2 days 

Overdue Materials & Fines - All  adult items with the exception of New Adult fiction/non-fiction and videocassettes/DVD's are $.10 for every day they are late.  New adult fiction/non-fiction is $.25 per day.  Children and YA materials are 5 cents per day. Attraction Passes require a $10 deposit and are fined $2 per day for late return.

Videocassettes and DVD's children/adult are $2.00 per day.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - Patrons may request books listed from libraries that participate in Interlibrary Loan.  Forms are available at the circulation desk in the library.

Microfilm  - Local newspapers from the mid-1800's - current are available for viewing on the library's microfilm reader.  Printing is available at 10 cents per page.  

Book-Drop  Outdoor book-drops are available outside the main door of the library and the children's room entrance. 

Compact Disc & DVD Drop Box CD's and DVD's can be returned after hours in our return box.

Lost Cards - Please report lost cards immediately as you are responsible for any materials charged on your card.  

Renewals and Reserves  Circulating books and other materials may be reserved by patrons at the circulation desk.  Patrons will be notified by phone when materials become available.  Patrons must come to the library to renew materials.  

Passes - Free and reduced admission passes are available for local parks and attractions.  These passes are reserved for patron's with valid library cards.  A $10 deposit is required at the time of loan. Overdue fees is $2.00 per day


Technology

Computer Access - The library has 8 public access computers and several pieces of technology equipment obtained through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grants to Public Libraries.  

Adaptive technology and Accessibility - Screen magnification and limited screen reading capabilities are available on adult and YA computers.

Children's Internet Use Policy

Children 11 years and under may use computers in the Children's Room if they have signed permission from a parent or guardian.  

Software programs available include applications that can be used for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. Disks for portable file storage can be purchased for $1.00 at the Circulation Desk.

Printing Services from our public computers is 10 cents per page by way of printing coupons.  Coupon denominations are: $1.00, $2.00, $3.00 & $5.00

 

Color Printing in the Children's Room is 50 cents per page.

Copy service - A copy machine is available for public use. 

Copies are 10 cents per page. 

Fax - A fax machine is available for patron use at the rate of  $1.00 per page for local calls, $1.50 per page for toll calls and long distance. 

Scanning - The library has a scanner available for public use. 25 cents per page.
